We are looking for a senior identity designer with experience in branding, print/packaging and digital design. You will work within our design team and collaborate externally with client teams and internally with writers, strategists, directors and project managers. We value strong communicators who are both independently responsible and highly team-minded.

As a part of this role, you will:

  • Create boundary-pushing identity systems and brand applications (digital, print, environmental, packaging, experiential) in a collaborative environment; you will often lead these projects and will hold responsibility for the executed design deliverables, which includes art direction of other designers
  • Use and expand your design expertise across a wide range of aesthetic styles
  • Craft and present visual work with strong conceptual thinking and strategic rationale 
  • Build well-defined, thorough brand guidelines for our partners to use
  • Serve and collaborate in a relational manner with clients across a variety of industries 
  • Participate in discovery activities: immersions, research, interviews, client meetings
  • Provide input into brand strategy, messaging and naming work
  • Raise the bar for design quality at Matchstic through your design work, project team leadership and vision for innovation
  • Report to a Design Director

Must Haves 

This role is senior-level (several years of agency experience are preferred, however, we are most interested in relevant branding experience and skillsets). In addition to being based in Atlanta (Eastern time zone), you could be a good fit if you have:

  • A thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Working knowledge of Sketch and Figma. However, the ability to teach yourself new programs is more valuable than knowing everything right off the bat.
  • Experience creating brandmarks/identity systems and extensively applying them across a variety of mediums
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to connect strategy to creative work
  • A thorough knowledge of print production and experience collaborating with web developers
  • Ability to balance vision and execution of high-quality work with practical business objectives and project requirements 
  • Commitment to knowing and understanding our clients and their end users
  • Strong communication and written English skills
  • Ability to interpret and contribute to high-level strategy and apply it to the task at hand
  • Excellent attention to detail, so much so that your application should include the word ethereal somewhere
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously, handle a fast-paced work environment and changing priorities

How we hire

We want you to meet with a variety of people from different teams, and get a sense of what it’s like to work together. This means our interview process takes a bit more time than most places so we can get to know each other.

Our first interview is a conversational-style interview. The best way to prepare for this is to spend some time reflecting on all of the experiences you've had and the things you've done to bring you to the point you're at today. No need to swot up on anything, it's more of a two-sided conversation than us "grilling" you.

Next, you will meet several members of the team so you get to know the people you could be working with, and the problems they’re currently solving. You will be asked to present 2 projects in your portfolio with us so that we can get a sense of your process, collaborative posture, problem soling, conceptual and strategic thinking and skillset.

Next, you will receive a test project. You will be fairly paid for your time.

We make a decision after collecting lots of diverse feedback from various team members. The hiring team will take the time to meet, and come back to you with a decision.
